Uber Word

Seeking ancient and lost treasures

Treasure is the key word here! It's not just about discovering something which is old or even ancient, it's about having your haul declared as treasure.

In the UK, anyone who believes they may have found ancient coins antiques or artefacts has to report the find to the local coroners office within 14 days. A decision will then be made as to whether the items can be deemed treasure or not. The official definition of treasure is that the item has to be more than 300 years old and contain more than 10% precious metal. Once this has been established, the finder can sell the items to museums and collectors or indeed keep them.

What is your view on treasure, coin and artefact finds across the UK?

Should they go straight to the museum or is it right to reward those who uncover them no matter what the value?
