Whether you feel like taking your new soft-top car out for a spin, planning a boat trip or even going for a lovely family picnic in the park, a barometer tells you the potential forecast and could help you with your final decisions.
Barometers have been used for hundreds of years to measure atmospheric pressure and help predict the weather in the near future. Not only are they highly functional but also make a striking addition to any home.

Centuries of Rise and Fall

The two main types of barometer are the Mercury Barometer and the Aneroid Barometer. They both react to changes in air pressure, but in different ways. With mercury barometers, which have not changed much in more than 350 years, a column of mercury inside a glass tube sealed at one end rises or falls with changes in the atmospheric pressure. The more complex aneroid (or analogue) barometer uses an aneroid cell which is a metal box containing a bellows and springs system which expands or contracts as air pressure changes.
