Glyndebourne Opera Festival

The Glyndebourne Festival is a renowned opera festival of the highest quality. Over a three month period, six outstanding operatic plays are performed at a delightful 700 year old country house. The house is situated near Lewes in East Sussex.

Since the 2012 Olympics Games was confirmed that it would be held by London by the International Olympic Committee in 2005, the city has been gearing up for the impending celebrations.

This will be the third time London has held the modern Olympic Games (previously in 1904 and 1948),

And after the enormous success and scale of the Olympic Games in China, this year London 2012 is particularly themed towards sustainability.

The 2012 Olympic Games are expected to bring many benefits to the UK, especially London where there has been and will be redevelopment of many areas aimed at sustainability and long term value. However, there have many much criticism of the budget for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

Between Friday 3th - Saturday 25th August a series of spectacular military tattoos will be displayed at Edinburgh Castle Esplanade (left image).

This high-status event is part of the Edinburgh Festival (an assortment of art and cultural festivals running throughout August) and is performed by the elite British Armed Forces, Commonweath of Nations and International Military Bands. Every year around 22,000 people come to experience the impressive tattoo displays, world –class Massed Military Bands and exhilarating firework displays.

Cowes Week

Due to the London 2012 Olympic Game being held at this events usual slot, the Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week’s date has been moved to a later date this year. It will be held from Saturday 11th August through to Saturday 18th August.

Founded in 1826 it is now regarded as a key event in the British sporting summer calendar. Consisting of around 40 races daily, 1,000 boats, about 8,500 competitors and thousands of spectators, Cowes Week truly is an impressive spectacle not to miss. As well as being a massively competitive sailing event in which Olympic, world class and casual sailors race it also has a large number of onshore activities such as live music and social events.
