A good walk enjoyed - not spoiled

No one is exactly sure when golf was first played, but it’s generally agreed that it was invented by the Scots. The earliest mentions of it were in 1457, when King James II of Scotland banned golf and football as he thought the games were distracting young men from their archery practice! The original 13 rules of golf were written by the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers in 1744 for the Edinburgh Silver Cup. They included such gems as: “Neither trench, ditch, or dyke made for the preservation of the links, nor the Scholar's Holes or the soldier's lines shall be accounted a hazard but the ball is to be taken out, teed and play'd with any iron club”.
