Uber talk
We've risked the wrath of traditionalists by including a whisky from Japan in our Uber selections of the amber nectar.
Nowadays, in addition to Scotch and the whiskey from Ireland or America, it is possible to find whiskies from The Netherlands, South Africa, Australia and Sweden. What do you think about these relatively new ventures? Can true whisky be made outside of Scotland?

GLENMORANGIE 18 YEARS OLD SINGLE M...
BERRY BROS & RUDD
£97.50
This Highland Scotch is aged 15 years in ex-bourbon oak casks, with a proportion transferred to Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks for the final three-year maturation. The result is a malt that is rich and full, with rounded flavours of a crisp toffee sweetness merged with creamy vanilla.

Uber Feature
Featured Company - Glenmorangie
The celebrated malt whisky producer Glenmorangie has produced strictly 1,000 bottles of Glenmorangie Pride 1981, a limited edition single malt whisky.
It comes in a special oak box created by Dutch furniture designer Wouter Scheublin that features a brass swivel mechanism which pushes the bottle up out of the case when opening and sells for £2,500.
The Glenmorangie distillery north of Inverness holds tours where visitors are expertly guided through all stages of the whisky making process. It goes without saying there is a chance to sample the goods!
JOHNNIE WALKER BLUE LABEL KING GEO...
JUSTERINI & BROOKS
£1245 for three
Johnnie Walker whiskies are defined by the label colour and the limited-edition King George V is the deluxe version of the superb blue. This was originally bottled to commemorate John Walker and Sons' first Royal Warrant Ltd in 1934 and is blended from rare malts to reflect the taste of that era.
JOHNNIE WALKER BLUE LABEL
LAURENCE SMITH
£125
This sets the standards for blended whisky. The pinnacle whisky of the House of Walker is incredibly smooth with layers of flavour from hand-selected, rare casks from across the distilling regions of Scotland. Its flavours are influenced by the smoke of the west and the sweet whiskies of the east.

Uber Ideas
Gift cheer - These silver tots from The Good Gift Company make a great present for a whisky lover - as long as used for Scotch of course!
Not forgetting the Irish - There are some marvellous Irish Whiskeys, which are typically extra smooth due to the triple distillation (in contrast to twice for Scotch) and use of unpeated malt. Justerini & Brooks has Bushmills 1608 at £407 for six.
First bottling - Inish Turk Beg Maiden Voyage is a new single malt from the solely Irish-owned Cooley distillery, available from The Whisky Exchange at £130.
