EAT, DRINK AND BE ADVENTUROUS!

chateauneuf.jpg

Arguments about which wine to drink with particular foods will rage forever. Many will say the old “rules” no longer apply and it’s all a matter of personal preference, others will insist the science of food matching is well proven.

So here are just a few wines with their suggested partners; it’s a good excuse to try them all to see if you agree! The wine merchants here and on other Uber pages will be able to supply you with fine examples of each.

Champagne – Not just an aperitif or for toasting. Traditionally drunk with seafood, particularly scallops, caviar, smoked salmon, lobster, crab, oysters or marinated raw fish.

Amarone - Majestic Italian wine from the Veneto area traditionally drunk with game, roasted and grilled meats, casseroles and well matured cheeses.

Sauvignon blanc from the Marlborough area of New Zealand. Refreshing and zesty, a favourite to accompany exotic seafood, but also copes well with the caramelised flavour of barbecued vegetables.

Gewürztraminer – One of the Alsace wines that goes particularly well with Thai or Indian food.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape – This power-packed Rhone wine loves a strong cheddar or other hard cheeses, but is also perfect with red meat or game, grilled or casseroled.

Chablis – The first choice to accompany the Christmas turkey is great with all types of poultry all year round.
Muscat – A popular choice for fruit-based desserts, or blue cheese.
