Wooden Toys

Once upon a time, toys were made of wood or metal. Then some clever humans invented something called plastic and suddenly everything in Toyland was bright, colourful and easy to clean.

Many children were sad to see their favourites toys leaving the playroom, but their parents told them the sharp edges and lead paint on some metal toys were really nasty.

But over the years, people started to worry about too many plastic things being bad too. Things built from plastic used a lot of chemicals and were very difficult to get rid of, the Toyland elders said.

So they got together and agreed to make a special effort to find children new things that didn’t harm something called the environment, while still providing lots of fun.

Wooden toys, now enjoying a renaissance, never went totally out of favour, and with good reason. Wood is a natural product that is tactile and stimulates the senses. It can be fashioned into many forms, which all have a unique quality to them. Wooden toys are safe for little mouths to explore and they are always going to be recyclable.
